What you'll need
A few important logistics, and things to prepare, before we get going...
For each Module you’ll need around 1 hour of uninterrupted quiet time, on your own if that’s possible. For Modules 2 – 6 you'll also need:
A collection of random objects of a size you can easily hold in your hands. Don’t spend too long thinking about what to choose, just grab whatever is nearest; it’s better if they don’t have special significance.
At least 1 cushion.
Somewhere seated where your back is well supported - this could be in a chair, or on the floor - aim to find somewhere you can be for the duration of the class.
Paper and pen if you find taking notes helps your learning. I’ll also be inviting you to establish the practice of journaling after the practical exercises. Or if you find it easier you may choose to record your thoughts by speaking them into your phone, or other recording device.
A note about your environment
Attending courses online can be a great way to learn while in comfortable, familiar surroundings. Being at home can also make it harder to ignore all the familiar distractions of an everyday environment.
Self-study is great because you can choose exactly when it works best for you to learn. But not having the framework of a regular class time can make it easier to get distracted and forget to study. I know from experience that ‘doing it when the time feels right’ often means not doing it at all!
So I highly recommend you set yourself a study schedule – perhaps the same time every day – and mark out this time in your diary, so you can plan around it.
During your study time I invite you to create some defined space (either physical or energetic) into which you can step while you’re studying, and separate yourself from the demands of life. Try to turn off or mute your devices, alerts, messages, and other distractions.
On this course we’ll be learning ways to feel, and be present with sensation. You’ll have the best opportunity for this if you’re able to attend without alcohol or mood-enhancing substances.
